OVERVIEW
Ladybug follows David, an art curator, through a single day after learning he may have a serious medical condition. Faced with the possibility of his own death, David moves through the world differently, slower, more awake, more alive to what he has always taken for granted. The film is a quiet meditation on mortality and presence, shot against the landscapes of Madeira, Portugal.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
We spend most of our lives at a careful distance from the fact that we will die. Ladybug is about what happens when that distance collapses in a single moment, and how the world looks different on the other side of it.
David doesn't do anything extraordinary. He simply moves through an ordinary day with new eyes. And that ordinariness is the point. We don't need a grand gesture or a dramatic revelation. We need to be stopped. Reminded. Returned to ourselves.
I made this film because I believe that the awareness of death is not something to fear but something to use. That the life we keep postponing is already here, already happening, already extraordinary if we choose to see it that way.
Ladybug is about the first day of the rest of your life.
