OVERVIEW
The Inner Ramblings of Alan Grey follows Alan, a man whose chaotic and relentless inner monologue takes on an unexpected physical dimension. Alone in an art gallery, Alan addresses the only thing that has ever made him feel understood, a painting. As his thoughts are carried with dark humor and brutal honesty, something extraordinary happens. The painting begins to change. A quiet, absurdist meditation on the weight of our own minds and the unexpected consequences of what we carry inside us.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
We talk a lot about the impact of negative thinking on ourselves. But what about everything around us?
Alan Grey started from a simple and strange question, "what if our thoughts had a physical effect on the world?" Not metaphorically. Literally. What if the chaos inside someone's mind could alter, damage, or destroy something beautiful simply by being near it?
Alan is not a villain. He is extraordinarily ordinary, a man drowning quietly in his own head while the world continues indifferently around him. His inner voice is loud, funny, relentless, and corrosive. And the painting, that still and beautiful thing that has given him his only moments of peace, pays the price for it.
I wanted to make a film about the violence of overthinking. About how the noise we generate inside ourselves doesn't stay inside. It leaks out. It touches things. It changes them.
Alan never means any harm. That's exactly the point.
